Acupuncturist Greenville SC – Does Acupuncture Hurt?
One of the biggest questions people have before they come into an acupuncture visit is. Does it hurt? In general, the answer is no. Actually, it’s virtually painless!
Sometimes you may feel the needle penetrate into the skin, however after the initial small pinch (most of the time not even felt), the needle rests comfortably in the body. Depending on the sensitively of a patient, you can feel some areas of the body more. Many of time you don’t even feel the needles! A lot of times patients don’t even know the needle is already in place in the body. Treatments are always catered to the sensitivity of the individual and what they are comfortable with. Acupressure (without the use of needles) can always be substituted for highly sensitive people. Acupressure is a even gentler approach to using the oriental medical system and can be substituted when needed. And as always, it is important to let us know how we can make you more comfortable through the treatment process.
The good part to the fear of needles is that most of the time your imagination is actually WORSE then the sensation. The disposable acupuncture needles are so small they are equivalent to the size of a few human hairs. They can actually fit inside the whole of a traditional hypodermic needle (the shot we’ve all felt at the traditional medical doctor’s office). The needles help to stimulate a deep relaxation response and many times people fall asleep on the table. It is actually a really enjoyable experience.
Don’t let your fear of needles hold you back from the wonderful benefit you can gain from acupuncture and an amazing medical system.
