Optimal wellness is achieved when the body is in balance physically, mentally, and emotionally. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used effectively for over 3,000 years for a wide range of health conditions. Treatments, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine, provide a natural way of relief for many health conditions.
Eastern medicine one of the most widely used medical systems in the world. Acupuncture is a safe and effective natural approach to healing and preventing symptoms or disease from occurring in the body. It promotes the natural healing process to begin in the body; therefore it can be used for a wide variety of conditions. This medicine works on the body as a whole, so it benefits the physical, mental, and emotional well being.
Acupuncture uses fine sterile needles that are inserted into certain points along the body. These points stimulate the body’s energy or “qi” (pronounced ‘chee’) in order to help the body heal itself. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), disease becomes present when the body is out of balance or there is a blockage of energy.
Acupuncture can benefit people of all ages, from infants to elderly populations. More than 8 million people in the United States are turning to alternative therapies, such as acupuncture, for conditions such as insomnia, fatigue, pain, nausea, infertility, digestive problems, gynecological disorders, anxiety, depression, stress, and preventative maintenance.
Traditional Chinese Medicine also includes different forms of treatments that may be included during the acupuncture treatment. These modalities include moxibustion, dietary therapy counseling, cupping, Chinese bodywork (Gua Sha/Tuina), and herbal therapy.
Katie Edwards, M.S., L.Ac., RYT
Katie began her studies in the medical field with a deep interest in mind/body medicine. She started her degree in premedical studies feeling as if there was a missing piece to western medicine. As a skeptic and scientific linear mind, she began studying Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to see what eastern wisdom really was. When she began to study with the masters of these systems, her skepticism changed dramatically.
Katie received her Bachelors of Professional Studies in Life Sciences from New York Chiropractic College. She graduated with Honors with a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
She received her extensive training in both NY and California. She has been in private practice for several years in New York and founded The Center of Bliss LLC in Greenville, SC. She is a Nationally Board Certified Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (Dipl.O.M.) from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is trained in both acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Katie understands from a different level on what people are going through when it comes their health. She suffered with chronic ailments as a child and multiple sports injuries as a competitive athlete throughout most of her adult life. When she found acupuncture and yoga her life transformed beyond what she could even imagine. She is willing and happy to guide people into a new realm of “new age”, yet VERY old medical systems.
She is committed to creating an integrative medical environment for people to take a holistic or whole body approach to health. The future of medicine lies in bridging the gap between western science and eastern wisdom.
Katie is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. She was introduced to yoga in her teens and has continued to explore and deepen her practice. She completed her Ashtanga based yoga teacher training at Anala Yoga Center in Clearwater, Florida. Using her extensive knowledge of the body she leads students on their path of yoga. She brings experience of yoga for over 10 years, starting at a very early age. Katie has had training with David Williams, Sharath Jois, Tim Feldmann, Doug Swenson, and Ally Ford.
Combining her expertise in Eastern Medicine, Katie helps patients and students get to their highest level of health.
