Ashtanga Yoga Greenville SC coming soon! An ashtanga inspired/power yoga based studio will be opening in Greenville!
Ashtanga is the traditional form of yoga that other styles, like power and vinyasa, actually derive from. The sequences of poses are taught as a series with poses in a certain order. There are a total of six series that make up the Ashtanga system, beginning with the primary series.
The traditional has been passed down from teacher to teacher over a period of more than 5,000 years and popularized in the recent generations by Sri Pattahbi Jois. After Pattahbi passed away in 2001, the system is continued by his grandson Sharath Rangaswamy, daughter Saraswati, and son Manju Pattahbi Jois, along with all the Ashtanga practitioners who are continuing to carry on the practice
The practice itself has great power and elegance to it. It links breathe, movement, and gaze into an interwoven sense of strength, sweat, power, and peace. The practice itself unwinds our day to day lives, noisy chaotic minds, and fearful nature. It gives us the courage and strength that we may never even knew existed, along with giving us a sense of peace and stillness within our lives
Power and vinyasa (links breathe with movement) styles are mainly based of the practice of Ashtanga. They take the postures and mix them up into a different sequence. Allowing the teacher to modify, change, and move the sequences to different intensity levels.
